"George."
He knew something was wrong as soon as he was approaching the crowd of people huddled around the outsider. The outsider looked like a police officer of some sort. But not in uniform. It was Jane who said the name. "George. I know you two were really close."
Now he was totally sure something had gone wrong. Where was Marc, he wondered.
Later on he learned that Marc had died from poisoning. The faucet in the bathroom had some virus that had been festering. "Apparently Marc had been drinking it all night. At the party."
"Damn. I thought he was really getting drunk. This sucks." a random colleague said and shook his head.
Jane placed her hand on George's shoulder. George kept his head bent down knowing nothing else to do. After Jane a few other came and did the same or gave him a hug.
After the crowd cleared he noticed a non moving presence remain in front of him. The detective, yes that's what he must've been, approached George. "They tell me you were the closest to Mr. Love?"
George didn't think that was true but didn't feel like arguing against. "We were kind of close I guess."
"We have some questions for you. It might take a bit longer than we have here. Would you mind coming down to the station with us?"
