Poetry

I had so many thoughts and emotions during the day today. So many things happened and I was glued to the TV almost all day.

The one thing that I hadn't expected was the poem by someone that looked like a teenager to me. Amanda Gorman. She was so powerful. I thought to myself, I like this form of communication. I always liked spoken words over written but poetry - done right - seems to take it to another level.

I see a lot of similarities between poetry, a good rap song and a good speech. If they are articulate and raw, they tend to move me. I find many songs by Tupac to have that type of depth. But I don't know too many poets. I can't read a bunch of poetry like I read other forms of art. I think the best way to consume poetry is when it is performed - hopefully live. Just like reading a speech or rap song wouldn't be as engaging, poetry should be delivered live.

I have written a few poem many years ago - it could be a total of 3. Each one came out of a painful time and writing the poem made me feel very good. But I never read it out loud. Just shared it with very close people that knew what I was going through.

I don't know if I would want to write poems again. If I were to write poems, I would prefer it it was a rap song. I think this current form of writing is what I enjoy now.

Damn. Until that last paragraph I was about to ask if you wanted to get into a consistent habit of writing poetry. Nevermind. Maybe in the future? I know

I don't think I have the skill for consistently writing poetry. But I am curious about a tribe for that. What are you thinking Sir Abe

I was composing poems in the shower today. Lately I've liked poetry a lot, it's a worthy medium on its own, but I like it because I find it expands my toolset, I'm able to create metaphors and similes more quickly. It's 100% mind exercise.

It's hard to write good poetry
if it's not heartfelt or true
it's harder still to find the words
that weigh a ton and
lift the spirits
too

oh and it doesn't need to rhyme.

it can be a poem that you write when
it feels like the sky is falling and your roof's caved in
and you want to scream but no one is listening

shit, that kinda rhymed too

ok

yellow submarine
beneath a dark blue sea
up periscope
Lucy in the sky with diamonds
back down to the depths
under the horizon

I can't help it.
