The Concept

Who doesn't want a fill-in the blanks recipe for quickly getting your writing started?

Well, there's a lot to writing, but to start, you'll need a concept. The concept is the overarching idea you want to discuss.

J.K. Rowling's concept was a boy who becomes a powerful wizard. House of Cards on Netflix is a couple that will do whatever it takes to become the most powerful people on the planet - as defined by the US presidency. Netflix's concept - though a business rather than a piece of writing is probably something like -- get 100,000,000 people to do something they're already doing - but have them pass through your website to do it.

On Adagia, the concept is - we'll be better writers if we show up, write, and give each other feedback. The feedback part is coming. The daily show-up is happening, and the site is a great place to go where everybody knows your name - like the old-time show Cheers.

There's a lot more to writing than the initial idea. But, this is a short piece covering a single idea. I guess you could say the concept is to give bite-sized ideas for better writing.

What's your concept? What will you dive into and discover?

This along with my break from implementing new features on here has made me realize another keystone part of this concept.

This post is making me think that I need to have something more concrete than just writing down whatever is on my mind once a day. Deliberate practice over just practice makes sense.
