You heard me.

Context: the shooting in Atlanta last week really threw me into the deep end that awakened me to my own amnesia of growing up as an Asian American experiencing everything from brutally unaware statements like 'your English is so good!', to interactions loaded with heinous intent: 'go back to China!'. 

I wrote the following in about 5 minutes. It was cathartic.

Be silent.

Be agreeable.

Because the noise will single you out —

Out as in not allowed in

Because you can’t be in if you’re not with

With the lonely portrait created by an impressionist that never met you:

A stroke of humility here.

A stroke of friendly there.

Please, lest you become awakened to your spectacular mime-hood.

Humanity is dead on the mute canvas.

Look at me:

I, no canvas, make noise.

Not to the smooth tune of the wind or the rustling of leaves…

Just the resounding fucking ruckus of my presence for our peace.

My favorite part of this is With the lonely portrait created by an impressionist that never met you: It intrigues me but still leaves a lot ambiguous.

Maybe the ambiguity is exactly what intrigues lol
