Son of Michael

Formula 2 is a second-tier single-seater racing championship that is considered a feeder system for the big game, Formula 1. Drivers compete in cars with the same chassis, engine and tyres, ensuring that the driver's ability is what sets each of them apart.

Mick Schumacher, son of Michael, won the Formula 2 Championship in 2020. He followed in his father's footsteps and cited the special ties with Ferrari from his childhood as a significant part of joining the Ferrari team's driver academy.

This year, Mick made his debut in Formula 1 with the HAAS team. Though the team are the championship backmarkers, it will give him valuable experience, as he vies for a seat in a more successful team in the years ahead. Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto said he expected Mick Schumacher to have a tough first season but added that he believed he could drive for Ferrari as early as the 2023 season.

Undoubtedly, the success of his famous father in Formula 1 has brought him privileges and opportunities which are not available to most other drivers. But it also brings a fearsome weight of expectation.

Notwithstanding this, he has used his talent and the unique opportunities available to him to make a convincing case for his promotion into Formula 1. I wish him luck.
