Darwin

The flights and accommodation have been booked, so my wife and I are off on an early spring getaway to Darwin. Darwin sits at the top end of Australia and is the capital of Australia's Northern Territory. The city is known as "Garramilla" to the Traditional Owners of the area, the Larrakia people, which refers to the white stone found in the area.

As part of the 'Top End', Darwin experiences a tropical climate with a wet and dry season. The maximum temperature in Darwin is 32 degrees Celsius all year round. However, during the wet season, the humidity changes significantly, and it can be unbelievably humid in the summer months. So, that's not the time to visit Darwin. Instead, the drier months are between May and September, and the reason why most tourists travel to Darwin between May and September.

The city has been rebuilt four times, following the devastation caused by the 1897 cyclone, the 1937 cyclone, the Japanese air raids during World War II, and Cyclone Tracy in 1974.

Though we are looking forward to seeing the World Heritage listed Kakadu National park, we are also hoping to have a lovely relaxing holiday.
