A few more horses

Each year, car manufacturers update the specifications and features on their cars to ensure that their product remains relevant in the market.

In 2019, the Mazda MX-5 got a fifteen per cent boost in horsepower from 118 kW to 135 kW, giving it more Zoom-Zoom. This increase in power wasn't achieved by fitting a new engine but with some modification to the current SkyActiv-G engine. The modified engine spins faster than the current 6,800 rpm redline, features lightweight pistons and connecting rods, a new crankshaft, larger intake and exhaust ports and a more aggressive camshaft.

But the MX-5 has never been solely about power. Whether working with the 135 kW the 2019 model delivers or slightly less, the Mazda MX-5 has always provided a thrilling driving experience thanks to excellent driving dynamics and a perfect power-to-weight ratio.

In addition to the engine modifications, the 2019 Mazda MX-5 also got a telescopic adjustment for the steering wheel, giving the car more adjustment for taller drivers who have found it a little hard to get comfortable in an MX-5. It will also get a rear view camera as standard.

Though I would all say that I bought an MX-5 for the great handling and wind in your hair driving experience, I am sure we would all agree that a few more horses wouldn't go astray.
