Lockdown fatigue

Now that we have been crowned the longest lockdown city in the world, I am not surprised that all Melburnians are feeling a little tired. Within four weeks, we should get our double dose vaccine rate over 80 per cent and get out of lockdown, hopefully, our last.

Everyone is starting to push the boundaries and do things they shouldn't do in lockdown. In our heads, we justify that visit to a friend because they are feeling a bit down, or the extra-long walk with family who we haven't seen for ages. We are experiencing lockdown fatigue.

Even the guy who gets up in front of us each day and says, "follows the rules" is getting caught flouting the rules. This week, the state premier was caught twice on camera not wearing a mask when walking from his car to the parliament house. The Victorian COVID-19 rules require Victorians to wear a mask outdoors, and those caught breaking the health direction face a fine of $200. So he was slapped with two $200 fines for his indiscretions and apologetic when he appeared at his media conference today.

The good thing is that the vaccination rate is picking up, and we should be out of this damn lockdown in early November.
