Sorrento

The weather has really turned lousy today. It was the wettest November day in Melbourne in fourteen years. Soaking rain that doesn't want to stop. My wife and I have ventured to Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsula for a weekend getaway. When we planned our trip many weeks ago, we anticipated that we would get a sunny weekend. However, if we had known that it would be this wet, we might have reconsidered having a weekend away.

Sorrento has a rich history and is believed to be the first European settlement in Victoria discovered in 1803 and later developed as a tourist destination from the 1870s. It is in this era that some of the magnificent limestone buildings were built in the township.

Sorrento is on the narrow end of the Mornington Peninsula. In good weather, swimmers can enjoy the pristine beach on the Port Phillip Bay side of Sorrento or the rugged ocean beach on the other side. I won't be swimming in this terrible weather, but I may enjoy a leisurely walk along the beach if the rain holds off long enough.

Regardless of the weather, it is nice to get away for the weekend and enjoy a well-earned break with my wife.
