Accountability

I want to think that I am accountable in everything I do. Being answerable for my actions and decisions is a critical value that drives me to do the right thing and not cut corners.

When highly accountable people take something on, you can rely on them to complete it. They don’t make excuses or throw other people under the bus over their missteps or inaction. As a result, they can analyse problems and solve them as they arise.

Accountable people don’t need a lot of praise. Their satisfaction comes from delivering a good outcome, and they don’t seek recognition but often downplay it when given.

Being accountable helps me to show empathy and to build meaningful relationships with others. If you can reflect on how you contribute to negative interactions with others, finding a way to change your behaviour becomes more straightforward.

Accountability is not always being answerable to others. It also requires you to be responsible and answerable to yourself. For me, being accountable is being able to look at myself in the mirror and say, I did that well, I have no regrets, and that feels good.
