Good timing

As Victoria approaches the milestone of 90 per cent of people aged over 12 being fully vaccinated, restrictions are about to ease again. From 11.59 pm this evening, new rules will apply.

Masks will no longer be required in workplaces such as offices, though a mask will need to be worn in healthcare, aged care and justice facilities, and in ride-share vehicles, taxis or on public transport. In addition, from 15th December, masks will no longer be required in retail stores.

Workplaces are open, and masks no longer need to be worn. Still, you must be fully vaccinated if you are a worker or volunteer who is required to be vaccinated to work outside the home, for example, authorised workers who were the subject of mandated vaccinations.

There is no limit on the number of guests you can have at your home or see in a public place, although the recommendation is that everyone is fully vaccinated.

The big news is that sporting events can be held at full capacity, so the Boxing Day Cricket will see a bumper crowd of 100,000, filling the Melbourne Cricket Ground to its gunnels. In addition, tennis fans will be able to attend the Australian Open in January with few restrictions.

We have come a long way from lockdown and have very few restrictions now, especially for fully vaccinated people. Moreover, it has come just as summer arrives - what good timing.
