In "White Nights" (1848), Fyodor Dostoevsky's said: "But how could you live and have no story to tell?". I think it is true that we all have a life story to tell, and we don't spend near enough time listening to or capturing those stories.
You may have read my recent writing about Annie, a story about my mother's childhood and emigration to Australia. Though I condensed it into less than 400 words, it captures in writing a memory of her life story that I hold very dear. My only regret is that I didn't take the time to capture more of her story or my father's life story, and now, it is too late.
My wife recently captured her father's story, based on the StoryCorps concept of preserving and sharing life stories. Not only was she interested in capturing the specific details of his life, but she was also keen to capture what he thought and how he felt about those life experiences.
So, enough talk from me, I need to act. There are so many stories to capture that I better get started. Who knows, I might even share some of them here.
