In 2010, the Richmond Tigers set an ambitious goal to win three premierships by 2020. Many pundits laughed at them and said they couldn't do it. After all, Richmond hadn't won a premiership since 1980, and many felt they didn't have the players or club culture to win one premiership, let alone three.
Those premierships look very far away at the end of the 2016 season. The club finished well done the ladder, and many supporters wanted to sack the coach. But the club held firm, retained the coach, and came into the 2017 season with a completely different mindset. The players were encouraged to open up to each other, and the coach created a whole new game plan.
Since the end of that ill-fated 2016 season, the club and its supporters have now been rewarded by sticking with the coach and its players. Premiers in 2017, 2019 and now 2020 have placed this team of players among some of the great teams of the past.
There is nothing better than supporting a team at the top of their game. You can never get sick of the success, and the Tigers of old haven't let me down.
