The island state of Tasmania would have to be one of Australia's most beautiful places to visit for a driving holiday. The roads are not busy, and the mountain roads are steep and winding, perfect for a driving holiday.
I have enjoyed some great roads, met some terrific people and had a fantastic time driving in Tasmania. Many roads remind me of driving around the United Kingdom. Narrow roads, with houses and pubs close to the road, remnants of Tasmania's colonial roots. I particularly enjoyed one drive with the Zoom Zoom club.
Starting at Georgetown in the north, I travelled through the most picturesque mountains on my trip down south. Even in rain and sleet, the roof remains open to breathe in the fresh cool mountain air of the Tasmania wilderness. I have been to Hobart quite a few times before, but I have never experienced the great roads and views you get south of Hobart driving through places like Woodbridge, Cygnet and Huonville. To finish my trip, I drove up to the top of Mount Wellington to get a spectacular view of Hobart.
Stunning coastline, quaint towns and beautiful wilderness await when you hit the road in Tasmania, and the best way to discover it is to drive.
