In our new digital world, I like the idea that I don't have to carry a wallet around with me and that everything I need from my wallet can be secured on my phone. For example, I haven't carried any cash for three to four years and use my iPhone or Apple Watch to pay for everything. So, I don't need to carry a plastic card from the bank at all.
Many government services can now be accessed using an app rather than carrying a wallet full of cards. For example, Australian citizens require a Medicare card to access health services, including a visit to the local doctor. When needed, the government now provides an app option to digitally store my Medicare card and present my card on the app.
However, I still need to keep several cards at hand, as no digital option is yet available. I don't understand why I can't use my iPhone when I get on public transport. If I had an Android phone, I could, but not an iPhone. In addition, I still need to carry a plastic card driver's licence, when most other states now have a digital driver's licence. I like my digital plastic, and I think there should be more of it.
