A loss to start the season

It’s been a disappointing half of football. My team, the Richmond Tigers, have only kicked three goals, and their opponents, the Carlton Blues, have kicked eight goals. The ball might be slippery, but that is no excuse for the Richmond players not hitting their targets with their kicks and bombing the ball in long where the Richmond forwards have to compete against the Blues, who are flooding back.

I would generally remain calm at this point and have faith that my team will bounce back in the second half. But, I lack the confidence I had over recent years, and I am not sure they have what is required to get back into it and win the game. Though he has kicked Richmond’s only goal, our star player Dustin Martin is off his game tonight. If we are to win, he will need to lift his game. Other players like jumping Jack Riewoldt, and the human meatball, Dion Prestia, also need to lift.

The players are back from the half-time break, and I will pause writing now and return to watching the game. I’ll come back after the game and let you know how the Tigers went.

The game has ended, and my team didn’t fare any better. The Tigers only got trounced in the last quarter by 25 points. I am disappointed that we have had a loss to start the season, but there is always next week.
