Otis

It has been three weeks since we brought our new puppy home. Though we have had Louie for two years, getting used to a puppy again is another challenge altogether. However, only ten weeks old, Otis is already settling into his new surroundings well.

I would rather that Otis didn't try to untie my shoelaces every time I stood up, and we could do without the minor accidents that require a wet wipe and paper towel to clean up. But overall, he is excellent, so how could you complain? He only needs to look you straight in the eyes to convince you of his innocence. Though Louie gets a little tired of his energy, Otis is a very good companion for him.

We have created a small, confined area for him to sleep in. With a combination of a dog crate and a pen, he has settled quickly into a sleeping routine at night. Once settled, he seems happy to stay there all night. We will need to be patient with him, and it will be necessary to teach him a few basic commands like sit, come and stay. As a result, our puppy will need a lot of our attention, and he won't be short of cuddles, praise or affection.
