I hope you have a lovely Saturday, it's December, last day of the year. Maybe you haven't started yet to think about that yet, but it's been quite a bumpy ride this year so far. The times we live are crazy, the war, the economy, the pandemic, people loosing their jobs, the technological revolutions.
We had a great leap in AI this year. Have you tried the open AI chat? It's smart. It is freakin good. This is the tip of the iceberg for what is yet to come in the next few years. I can bet money on it, before the end of the decade machines will write code and make optimisations that to improve themselves. Most probably before the end of the century we will have AGI that far exceeds human capacities and, I said Human, but the human mind will be augmented and expanded far beyond our current condition.
There is this visceral feeling that I have every time I interact with AI's of various kinds. At times I'm impressed and filled with a sensation of wonder and inspiration, other times I'm freaked out completely. Yet sometimes it makes me sad, to see how our best creations, of art are literaly being fed to neural nets that will spit out quasy original imgage of cats in a Picasso style. We haven't written the copyright laws yet. It's a bit disouraging for artists to put their art out there, just to have it taken and perverted in all shapes and forms trough through ML use.
I feel like we are headed straight into a big unknown, faulty as we are, with our touchy egos, selfish, curios and at the same time fearful of everything alien. Capable of great beauty and finite.
We might be testing the waters for another year or two, just dipping our toe in the pool of knowledge, but afer that we'll be sucked into it.
