The first Saturday of every month, I meet with two groups of ladies. One is a book club and the other is a group I became a part of after an online class.
The book club is mostly Ethiopians and we read a book that has been voted by the majority of the members. Then we meet the following month and discuss what we thought of the book and what lessons we can take away from it. I have been introduced to some great authors I wouldn't have selected due to the club. I also find myself reading both fiction and non-fiction with the intention of more than just reading. Adds an additional tier to make me more intentional. There have been books that I just couldn't read and have skipped because it just didn't do it for me. There have also been books I recommended because I loved them but it didn't resonate with the group. That is part of being in a group I suppose.
The second group are mostly African ladies that are into self transformation and learning. We started to meet right after a class we took together where that type of interaction was encouraged. Many groups were created from the different classes but only this one group is still going strong after almost a year. We are now talking about doing something business related to encourage each others business.
I haven't been a fan of group activities most of my life but I think I am learning to appreciate the synergy it brings. Especially if it is with like minded people.
