You really are free to reinvent at a moment’s notice:
You can choose to change your tone, say sorry, or back away moments after entering a heated argument.
You can choose to acknowledge your mistakes moments after reflexively defending them.
You can choose to speak up moments after determining that it might be better to be silent.
Understanding the fact that you could leave this life at a moment’s notice should be more than sufficient incentive to be intentional about engaging the world in a way that is meaningful to you.
To that end, whenever you realize that what you’re doing (or not doing) is no longer in alignment what what matters to you, choosing to reinvent in that moment — to go a different way that you will not regret — is a powerful recourse that is available to you.
Life is too short to be frivolously throwing energy away at things that do not matter, and holding back energy from the things that do.
