The Car Door

as reply to reminiscing

In the same amount of time Max was somewhere else. No closer to home, but with almost enough of something he felt like he could return. Now with all of his skills the diner would accept him with open arms.

“A cook with that resume, you should be head chef!”

That’s how he imagined it. Driving to his job now he felt that, joy in possibility. Not in his real life. Not facing his real life. His home life. Possibility.

He didn’t tell himself these things just thought about when he would return. Maybe he’d buy that house. He’d have enough by now. Almost right.

Keith asked him “what’s stopping you from going home now?”

“You know you just, there’s so much out there. Don’t you want to see it all?”

To Keith Max’s old situation seemed nice just h to e basement in the family home. Even the weird guy Dave seemed like a home.

Max thought about text Keith. Thought that he’s probably too busy though. Always doing something with his new job. The lab, always the lab.

Max pulled into his job. Brian was there already he saw his car, and Kevin they were prepping already for the morning rush.

“Breakfast is served” Max said to himself while he closed the car door.
