Instant messaging

As I sat down to write tonight, I was interrupted several times by various instant messages that stole my attention away from the task at hand. Messenger, Whatsapp, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Chat, LinkedIn, and SMS messages are just some of the instant message apps that I would use daily.

It is easy to set up a chat in Messenger when you want to interact with your friends on Facebook or chat with people in Microsoft Teams. Establishing a group to chat with on Whatsapp is a little more complicated, but not impossible. If all else fails, chatting via SMS message to an individual or group is always a good fallback position.

I don't mind communicating via instant messaging, but I don't particularly appreciate that I have to use so many different apps. Too many notifications are popping up. I prefer to turn all the notifications off, but this seems to defeat the purpose of having instant messaging.

It's time I look at some way to aggregate my instant messaging into a single view. I am sure there is an app for this, one that can consolidate all of my different messaging platforms in one interface and allow me to read and respond in the same app.

Any suggestions?

Your list of apps is so long... and yet you still forgot

TELEGRAM!!

I have no suggested solution for concurrently getting the benefits of instant messaging while avoiding notification fatigue.

For me I try to take an office hours approach. For certain hours of the day I have notifications on and I'm catching up. outside of those hours I try not to engage.
