When Mazda released the MX-5 RF in 2017 in the USA and UK markets, they released a Limited Edition model that included 17-inch BBS wheels, Bilstein shock absorbers, Brembo brakes, Recaro seats and lots more. I was disappointed that the Limited Edition was not available in Australia when I placed my order for a Mazda MX-5 RF in January 2017.
Though Limited Edition MX-5s retain the same motor and drivetrain, they are always equipped with additional features that add to the vehicle's handling and comfort. A Limited Edition MX-5 models' rarity can also mean that your car is more valuable in the used car market.
Nine months after I bought my car, Mazda Australia announced that they would release a 'Limited Edition' model of the Mazda MX-5 RF in 2018. Not only will it be equipped with all the goodies from the overseas model, but you will also receive a special gift pack containing a bespoke Mazda MX-5 wristwatch and a letter signed by the MX-5 program manager. It would be priced from $55,790 on the road, and you needed to be quick as they only released 110 cars.
I considered purchasing one and went as far as placing an order with my mate at the Mazda dealer. Unfortunately, the release of this Limited Edition model was twelve months too late for me. When it came time to put a deposit down, it seemed to be a little unrealistic to be upgrading my MX-5 after just one year. So I withdrew my order and kept my existing car.
They say timing is everything, but on this occasion, the timing was not right.
