It's always a good day when Apple announces new goodies

Today Apple held its spring event to announce new products. Let me start off by saying I would LOVE to look over the shoulders of the people who design the visuals for these events. I like flying around the Apple Park campus like I'm on a magic carpet. Another random observation--Apple has very strict guidelines for their presenters, and I can tell a lot of work goes into making sure they are all synchronized in delivery in terms of gestures and even speech cadence.

So let's get to the goodies from the almost exactly one-hour event.

Environmental update 1:08 - Yep Apple cares about the environment. Fantastic. Let's get to the goodies.

Apple Card 2:20 - Apple Card will now let families share the credit, literally. Nothing else here and I already have an Apple Card.

Podcasts 3:36 - Apple podcast subscriptions - This announcement actually disappoints me. It's another sign that the "Golden Age of Podcasts" is coming to an end. I don't want another service like Spotify where podcasts are sequestered behind a subscription. If anything, it should have been added to Apple Music and not offered as a separate line item.

iPhone 12 4:53- purple color Ok, looks nice but I'd call it more lavender than purple. The artist formerly known as some symbol and also "Prince" would have approved.

AirTags 6:40 - The long-rumored device finally made its debut. Nifty tracker for people who want to keep tabs on things. I would be more interested if I were still traveling regularly.

Apple TV 4K 10:40 - A new Apple TV with some bells and whistles and redesigned remote. I have the last generation of Apple TV and not in the market for an upgrade.

iMac 18:24 - I have to admit the new iMacs look SWEET. The redesign looks great and of course, the M1 chip is part of the package. My iMac is four years old, and this one is tempting. I don't *need* a new iMac, but if that were the only criteria would I have all the Apple products I have?

iPad Pro 36:40 - The iPad Pro updates look amazing. Apple added the M1 chip and made a bunch of improvements including a new micro-LED screen in the 12.9-inch version. Of everything announced today, this one is the most tempting. I downsized to the iPad Mini a couple of years ago to lighten my load while traveling. I don't expect to be traveling anytime soon, so maybe it's time to upgrade to a larger iPad. Although, I see the demos of all the creative people using iPads, and I can't help but think it's going to waste if I get it and just watch Schitt's Creek episodes on Netflix.

The new products are available to order on 4/30. This gives me some time to decide.
