Ten Minutes

as reply to howard separates from the housemates

"The halls got lonely." Howard said this out loud, just to hear someone else.

There was just him most days for the past week. The cleaners sometimes, and a few guys installing new beds in this room and other things in that.

Today was especially quiet. They didn't have training, but he was meant to meet with his neighborhood team. He didn't or he would show up late he thought. There is a part of him who did this since he was a kid. Every time someone would ask him to do something, he just wouldn't and see what happens. He'd stopped all that mostly, but now just liked to be late. It was like his way of showing them whose boss.

He didn't do this all the time. He also didn't really think they thought he was the boss. It was hard to explain. He wasn't trying to be cool either.

This feeling of something like shame rose him from the bed.

He blitzed coffee in his grinder and poured a cup. In another life he'd offer it to his partner or something, now he just drank it alone. He would be 10 min late he decided. No one cares about ten minutes.
