This week is pay week, and today was the first payday for our workers with the new payroll system. The testing and preparation appear to have paid off, and the workers were paid on time.
I am always a little apprehensive when I push the button on a new system, particularly one as important as payroll. If I get the workers pay correct, then I won't hear from them. But, if I get it wrong, they will be shouting disapproval from the bleachers.
When the workers receive their payslips, they will look a little different, but it will also show a little more money. It is a positive outcome for our workers, so I am not expecting too many negative criticisms. However, I am sure a few workers are not too sure what the changes mean and will feel that they have been underpaid.
Even though the new payroll system has been implemented, the project is not over. I will still need to evaluate the first payroll because it won't be perfect, noting any mistakes and areas that need some fine-tuning. Hopefully, it will only take a few pay runs to get it all right, so I can leave it with the finance team and move onto the next implementation project.
