When you note the opinions of others, you are acknowledging them and are free to incorporate their input into your work/life in whatever way you believe is appropriate.
When you are beholden to the opinions of others, you treat the opinions of others as a responsibility — as something you are obligated to respond to.
In situations where you work in service of a principal — the owner of an operation — it makes sense to be beholden to their opinions on what actions should be taken.
But in all other cases, the only persons opinions you’re beholden to are your own.
Remember that.
