Honest day's worth of work

I wonder if a career thief gets home at the end of the day and says, "Well, that was a dishonest day's worth of work."

Today I can say that I put in an honest day's worth of work. It was a full ten-hour day. I had multiple phone calls, created several SQL queries, and completed a draft of a business requirements document (BRD).

My three hours of deep work on Saturday paid off today. The manager was impressed with the analysis I provided. The bad news is that we identified some issues that need to be addressed. The good news is that the issues have nothing to do with our project or our solution. Our solution to address duplicate claims has been live for seven months, and the claims analysis verified that the solution is working as designed. Prior to the solution, approximately 70% of claims were manually processed with only 30% auto processed. After the solution, the ratio was flipped. We now see 70% of claims auto processed and 30% manually processed. The 30% is still a high figure, but those claims are related to the issues that are outside the scope of our project.

It is nice to be able to demonstrate proof that our design and implementation have paid off.
