Cancel Darwin

We knew we were taking a risk when my wife I decided to book a holiday to Darwin in early September. We were looking forward to the warmer climate and a trip to the biodiverse nature reserve that is the Kakadu National Park. Visitors to the Northern Territory will not be permitted entry if they are from a declared COVID-19 hotspot. Victoria is currently a COVID-19 hotspot.

Fortunately, I have been able to cancel all our accommodation for free. I have also cancelled our flights, but Qantas want to keep our money. Instead, they will hold onto it as a credit towards other flights, provided we book them within two years. I would prefer to have my money back, but I thought this might happen when I first booked. So I guess we are doing our bit to keep the flying kangaroo airborne during the pandemic.

It is tough to plan a holiday at the moment. There is always a risk that a lockdown or restrictions will prevent us from getting away. But, we have to have some hope of a holiday and booking a trip gives us that hope. Damn this pandemic, we can't stay home forever.
