Stayathomecation

Next week, my wife and I were scheduled to fly to Darwin for a week of warm weather and relaxation. However, now that Victoria is a COVID-19 hotspot, the Northern Territory government has said there is no way they are going to let Victorians travel to Darwin. So we have had to cancel our flights and accommodation.

Typically, if we can't get away, we would cancel our leave and stay at work. No point taking leave if we can't get away. However, this year it will be different, as we are hanging out for a break. So we have decided to defer our leave by week, and we will be having a holiday at home.

Now we have had a holiday in Melbourne before. A few years ago we had a staycation where we took a week off work and did touristy things around our home town. We did a cruise on the river, a walking tour of the city, and stayed a night at the lovely Yarra Valley on the edge of the suburbs. We really enjoyed it.

Our forthcoming staycation won't quite be the same. We can travel no further than five kilometres from home, and only to do exercise or food shopping. That's hardly a holiday.

Nevertheless, we both need a break, and we are sure that our stayathomecation will be relaxing.
