This, not that

Every day is punctuated with moments where you can decide how to respond.

Every response is an implicit assertion that this (the response you chose) is more valuable than that (the response(s) you didn’t choose).

For example:

When a mistake is made, you can choose grace, not punishment.

When you or a teammate is having a difficult time, you can choose compassion, not judgment

When faced with a challenging situation, you can choose to see it as an opportunity, not a problem

The responses that members of a team give has a summative function — the culture is always being shaped by the decisions and messages that people choose to routinely communicate.

Being the change is how you create change — yes, that familiar cliché.

It’s true.
