This year, I've had a period where I was job hunting with all vehemence. For some weeks now, I've been trying to hire a Laravel Developer for a product I'm the Product Manager for.
Having been on both sides of the table, it's been surprising to find out that Hiring in Nigeria is seriously tiring.
So so tiring.
The quality around is low. Plus, I literally have to phone call people to respond to emails.
In a country where the unemployment rate is 33.3%, I was thinking I'd be overwhelmed with applications and eagerness. The reverse is the reality.
The issue, I figured out, is that because there's poverty in the land and folks have to run multiple jobs to survive thus we have several Jack of all trades masters of none. That also is the major reason they are distracted, why they forget to check emails or reply to emails.
It's a shame that an ugly employment situation that should make people want to get jobs is (or could be) the reason they won't / don't get jobs. And as such the horrible cycle continues.
Sigh.

BTW you should've hired me! I was in the job market in the summer!
