Iya Seun

Today is my Mum's birthday.

She's my hero.

In the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria, Women are called by the name of their Child, thus my Mum's is popularly called "Iya Seun" which translates to "Seun's Mother".

She raised me as a Single Mom. That meant abandoning her Teaching Career when I had a Bow Leg & K-Leg challenge to take care of me for about 5 years or so. She also didn't remarry. I don't know why, I'm not sure I'd want to ask her either, but I'm sure it must have been a strong decision not to.

As far as I can remember, she's been my biggest fan. If that meant changing my school to a private school she obviously can't afford, she will. Just to ensure I have the best education she can stretch herself to provide.

Since I was a kid, She has always wished to travel abroad. We had hoped I'd be the one to make it happen. In 2017, my Uncle's Daugther asked her to come over to London to help her with their kids. She spent 6 months in London in 2017. She visited several places, some of her pictures during the visit are my favourites. I'm happy her prayer was answered.

One thing that sparks great joy for me in this world is sending her money. I sent her 30k today. She was happy. And I am happy.

With God's help, I will do more for her in the land of the living.

Happy Birthday Iya Seun
