A Slow Burn II

We'd found the temple after three days of hiking through rainforest, jungle, and other groupings of mercilessly green vegetation. It looked like it had been expecting us. The doors had been rent apart, and vines like guiding arrows led the way for us inside.

Inside, a lucid flow of air drew us in further. Cracks and missing portions of roof gave the wide entrance hall a glow akin to daylight, accentuated by the foliage and moss that lined each surface. I seemed to feel its breath, its freshness in my lungs, and I was aware then more than ever of our symbiotic relationship with the earth around us as we stepped over ancient bones and branches and up the steps to the next room.
