NatMeet

Every two years, all the Zoom Zoom clubs across Australia get together for a national gathering called NatMeet. It brings together MX-5 owners from all around Australia in the one place to talk, have fun and show off their roadsters. All clubs, except Western Australia, take turns to host the event.

In 2020, the NSW club was scheduled to host NatMeet XIV in the Hunter Valley. When the pandemic restricted travel and closed borders, the NSW club rescheduled the event for 2021. When the Delta variant of COVID-19 struck this year, several states imposed more robust quarantine requirements, making it extremely difficult for potential attendees to plan future interstate travel. The NSW club also considered running the event in 2022, but the uncertainty of travel meant they had no option but to cancel NatMeet XIV so that the clubs could focus on the next NatMeet.

Some club members pride themselves on being to all, if not most, NatMeets, and the cancellation of NatMeet XIV is a disappointment for them. However, the event will still be recognised as an official NatMeet, with the history of the event reflecting the efforts of the NSW club through COVID-19.

In a recent meeting of the Zoom Zoom Club Presidents, it was agreed that the next gathering, NatMeet XV, would be held at Toowoomba, Queensland. Though firm dates are yet to be scheduled, it is anticipated that NatMeet XV will be held in April 2024. So, put it in your calendar and keep an eye out for more details to come.
