Lake Eildon

I got out on a drive with Zoom Zoom club today, which I think might be the longest drive I have done in the roadster this year. The North-Eastern Victorian Chapter of the club hosted a drive around Lake Eildon, and by the time I got home, I had covered almost 600 kilometres.

Lake Eildon is a manufactured lake with a rock and earth-fill embankment dam with a controlled spillway across the Goulburn River. The dam's purpose is to supply water for irrigation and the generation of hydroelectricity. During November 2006, the water level in Lake Eildon dropped to a low of only 15% from the previous year level of 48%. Today, Lake Eildon's water level was 85% filled, and it was a picturesque scene for our drive.

Many mountains surround Lake Eildon, and the lake fills in the valleys like fingers. So there are lots of winding roads around the lake, and I made the most of it with a few spirited drives. Though I haven't been able to drive my car quickly on winding roads for a long time, I soon settled into a fast driving rhythm and set the pace for the rest of the pack. It has been a while since I had such a big grin on my face.
