Housewarming

Water like a harsh word battered my car window. I didn't know it yet but that would be the last time I'd remember driving in the rain as a happy memory. The music you play sounds richer, like it's insulated from the outside world that can just as quickly lead it astray, or waft it too thinly across the ether.

First impressions don't only work on people. The instant you enter a room, you can read its vibe, read the scene. That split second tells you the whole tale. Whatever someone says as an opening remark is just an attempt to wash away that realization. But you've got to cling to your truths.

The house was well-lit, which was rare. As I walked in, more and more people came out from either adjoining room, the most people we'd had in the house since Grandma's funeral.
