Winding mountain roads

One of the nice things about holidaying in the Victorian High Country is that the tallest mountains in the state surround you. Now I know that they are nowhere near the tallest mountains in the world, but at around 1,800 metres, they are tall enough to have a lovely winding mountain road to drive.

One of the most frustrating things about driving these windy mountain roads is other cars on the road. It’s not that they are doing anything wrong, it is that they want to take in the scenery and drive at a snail’s pace. Windy, mountain roads are for spirited driving, and passing other cars on these narrow roads is a challenge.

To alleviate this frustration, I always get out early for my drive. As a result, there is less chance you will encounter other drivers on the road. Whatsmore, drivers you encounter are more considerate and will let you pass safely.

Once you reach the summit, it is time to take in the views. The Victorian High Country has some of the most spectacular views in Australia. After breathing in the fresh mountain air, it is time to jump back on my steed and head back down.
