Noticing

Recently I read that there are nanowires protruding from senescent cells. Which sounds like a lot in one sentence, but put in another way, old cells have weird strings coming off of them. The researchers of this article found even weirder things. Where the cells seem to share information through these wires, literally like those cups on a string.

What bothered me about this paper, wasn’t how strange and cool it was, was more that I look at those same cells almost everyday, and I never noticed these strings until someone told me to look for them. Then its like, wow, whats going on here, and what are you guys all talking about. This particular cell line is from a man, although it probably shouldn’t be gendered.

I just found this kind off putting, but I also  kind of felt duped. I think daily research life is too busy and fast.

Now I am wondering about all the other stuff I am missing. Or I guess not missing just not really looking. There is a lot to what you can see, even more than I guess at first glance.

Maybe its just been a busy week, but I want to try and slow down. To stop and smell the roses. Or to stop and
notice the  nanowire producing senescent cells.
