Playing Chess Again

Today I started to play Fischer chess, a variant of chess I told myself I would never play.
I don't think of myself as a purist, but for some reason with chess I always just played the regular versions.
Even though are a few things that really bother me about it.
I feel like I should preface this with, #nerdpost or #onlyreadifyoulikechess.
But maybe there is something for everyone.
Anyway, regular chess is fun, and really old, and in some ways quiet boring a repetitive.
Additionally, openings really matter, and people who study traps and lines can absolutely destroy other people.
Which kind of bothers me, I don't know why, maybe because its not skill but memorizing.
But also a lot of skill comes later, when the knowledge of openings stops.
The middle game is more free flowing and unpredictable.
Then the end game does have some rules, and people write whole books about the end game.
People also write whole books on particular openings, and all the possible outcomes.

But Fischer chess (or 960) all the pieces on the back rank so kings rooks bishops queen are randomized, to a degree.
So there isn't really opening study yet.
For me this is really strange and I found it really fun to play.
Like what have I been doing for the past year fun.

It feels like learning something new, or finding a new park, or a new running route.
It also puts your mind or I feel like less into autopilot.
You have to respond and worry about things that you normally forget about when you just play your typical opening.
Things that were taken for granted are now important.

Honestly feels again like a game.
