a bad feeling

After holding each other for a bit, they examined the box further and found a small slender keyhole on the front of it. They checked the bag again but did not find any such key that would fit the keyhole. Disappointed yet also relieved they placed the box back into the packaging and the humming grew fainter and fainter. They still both felt paranoid and slightly disturbed. Pt poured them some drinks, this time Jasmine agreed, and she led the into the living room where she put on a movie. They decided a funny one would be perfect. Jasmine suggested Pineapple express and he agreed.

They sat together on a couch sitting on separate ends. He looked around the room, the ceilings were incredibly high and fancy artwork and decorations covered all the walls. He dug his feet into the green shag carpet as if it were trying to swallow him up. Although the humming had faded, he could not get the small blue box out of his mind. It was as if it were transmitting some sort of signal. Images and memories that he couldn’t he quite make sense of. He scooted a little closer to Jasmine.
“I have a bad feeling about that box.” He said.
“Yeah, I can’t stop thinking about it.” Jasmine replied as she moved closer toward him.
“Can we bring it back to that house. I don’t think we should have messed with that package.” She said.
“Okay.. But what do you think is inside of it?”
“I don’t know.” She said. “I can’t help but think that whatever is in it wants to get out. I’m not just being superstitious, am I?”
“I don’t know. Maybe we’re just making something out of nothing. It’s probably just a normal box and the paranoia of having taken it is affecting us somehow.”
“Yeah you’re probably right.” She said sighing. She seemed to have gotten very tired all of a sudden.
“I can go bring it back tomorrow. Maybe we should just cool it with the scavenger hunt for awhile.”
“Yeah, maybe you’re right.” She said. “I’m glad it brought us together though.”
“Me too.” He said. He felt himself getting hotter like he should do something like touch her hand or confess his feeling for her. But the anxiety of everything made him want to leave and go home.
“Hey I think I should go back to my apartment now. Todd probably needs to go outside.”
"Alright." Jasmine yawned and looked ready to fall fast asleep. "Do you need me to take you back?"
"That's okay, I'll just call an Uber." He didn't want to be a burden on her plus she didn't appear to actually want to drive right now.
“Okay, Let me know when you take the package back. "
“Ok I’ll let you know.” He sat on the couch next to her in silence as he waited for his Uber driver to come moving his feet around in the carpet. He stared at the TV for 20 minutes, his mind completely blank devoid of any thought or emotion until he received a notification that his driver was here.
“Hey I’m really glad all this has brought us together too.” He said repeating her sentiment then he leaned in and kissed her lightly her glossy chap stick coating his lips. Her eyes were closed maybe she had fallen asleep. He got up, grabbed the package and left Jasmine’s large house.”

As his driver drove him through the beautiful neighborhood lined with mansions and luscious trees he thought about Jasmine. He felt like he should have been embarrassed by what he did, but he had no such feeling.  She was probably just asleep. His mind kept coming back to the box and the package. Maybe he’d go back alone tomorrow without Jasmine. He kept wondering if have feelings for her was a mistake or not. It felt like he was rushing things and using her as some sort of escape. Or maybe everything that happened was supposed to happen. He felt warmth and comfort from her when they had embraced, maybe she felt the same way about him. He heard a faint humming from the package laying on the seat besides him. This time it was less alarming, yet not quite comforting. It made him feel nostalgic in a way. He was picturing things in his mind. People and clothes and nature; a scent from somebody that he had forgotten. Were these memories or his imagination. It was hard to tell. "Hey what the hell is that annoying noise?" His Uber driver yelled form the from seat.
"Make it stop!"

When he got back to his apartment complex, he walked over to his car and put the package in his glovebox under his registration forms and manual. He felt like he wouldn’t be able to sleep with the box inside the apartment. He checked the time on his car radio. It was already 1:00. It felt way earlier to him for some reason. As he walked up the stairs to his floor he noticed that all the lights were off except for one apartment. He didn’t know who lived in that apartment as he had only met a couple of tenants so far. For some reason he was disappointed Larry was not around to disturb him. I guess he had enjoyed his presence more than he thought. Todd was happy to see him when he entered, the drugs having worn off. He noticed a wet pee stain on his carpet. He sighed, attached the leash to Todd, and began a walk.
