Japa is a local slang here in Nigeria that means to migrate to the US, UK or Canada. Recently people raise "japa-compatibility" when talking about love or marriage. Here's my quick response to that.
----
These ideals are foreign to us. And it’s not good.
You can’t eat your cake and have it.
Even [redacted] run from western ideals of family, marriage pari-passu chasing economic advantages. You’d have to lower one for the other.
When people don’t actively do that. Something suffers.
Family.
Kids.
Marriages.
We’ve seen this a lot in [redeacted] and it’s a shame we are copying it.
Japa-compatibility is arrant nonsense
If pursuing economic advantages matters to you. Like Japa.
Pursue and don’t cry that you can’t find a person from your culture to marry.
Go marry a [redacted] folk.
If marriage matters to you. Then build it before pursuing economic advantages.
Except you want to deliberately marry a dunce.
To each his own.
Love and family first or Economic advances first?
Only very few get to have both together from the “trenches”. They are the exceptions.
You have to prioritize one. The rejection of this is a delusion.
I have not seen anyone who pursued economic/career growth vehemently early in life. Without something giving.
Something has to give.
Like I said.
To each his own.
