Gift card

"So get this. Remember last year when I was the manager over the team in California?"

"Config Manager?"

"Yah. While I was managing the team, a full-time employee on the team got engaged. I knew her for years and surreptitiously got her address and mailed her a card with a gift card inside. I wanted it to be a surprise."

"Sounds very white of you."

"Yah, well no good deed goes unpunished."

"What happened?"

"Well, a few weeks go by and nothing. I didn't hear a peep from her. I thought it was strange, but it's happened before. I sent my niece a gift in lieu of my attendance at her wedding which took place smack in the middle of the COVID epidemic. I never heard anything from her either."

"Bitches be bitches, bro."

"Anyway, back to the gal at work. After maybe a month or so, she sent me a message and said hey, I saw that you sent me something. So I'm thinking, okay finally the acknowledgment. Then she says she never received it. I asked her how she knew I sent her something. She said she gets the USPS daily notification and she saw the picture of the envelope, but it never showed up in her mailbox, and then she forgot about it."

"So she never got it?"

"As far as I knew until recently, she never got it."

"Did she know there was a gift card in there?"

"I never told her. All she saw was the envelope of a card."

"How much was the gift card?"

"$100."

"Damn consultant money. So there goes a C-note right down the drain."

"Oh, it gets better. So a coworker of hers that I still stay in touch with told me they called off the wedding."

"Really? Why?"

"Apparently she was living with the dude she was engaged with and HE got the card. He blew the money and she found out."

"That's crazy! So somehow you caused their divorce."

"Well, they were never married. I didn't cause anything. Dude is the one who dogged it. But if that's all it takes for them to explode, doesn't sound like the marriage was one for the books anyway."

Please tell me this is fiction??? LOL
