Questions

Last weekend I had a meeting and some of the questions I asked weren’t really liked by the presenter. Others questions people said were. I think in some aspects I missed judged the presentation, in that it was more technical and the person was new to the project so they more  just wanted more practical questions. I on the other hand was asking more theoretical questions.

This made me think though that there are sometimes bad questions. Me in this case was asking bad questions. In that they were more trying to ask about the project, like the underlying science and what she was saying related to another adjacent field. Maybe a good question for someone in the field,  or if you wanted to have a new project, but now how she was just starting. And she needed help.

So there seems to be a technical vs theoretical sliding scale. I think there is also a scale for complete ignorance and mastery. Then another for in field or broad questions.

There are probably more, but I am trying to be more cognisant of these things. Then you can ask questions that really push what people are trying to do. Or help them discover things.

Science has many answers but lacks really directional questions.
