I love Alan Watts’ quote, “you are under no obligation to be the same person you were five minutes ago” because it highlights a commonly held belief that doesn’t seem to be commonly recognized.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be the same person you were five minutes ago, or a day ago, or a week ago. But there’s also nothing compulsory about it.
We are allowed to change our minds, even when it’s fundamental or drastic.
In some cases, this is encouraged — especially when the only reason you’re not changing your mind is that you’re convinced that you can’t or shouldn’t.
It’s possible to be consistent to a fault.
