always more to do

The idea of doing just one more thing is a trap.

There’s always more you could do.

Could you respond to that Slack message? Sure. Easy.

Could you solve this small problem with a project at work? Probably.

But it’s impossible to set boundaries this way, because you’ll always be teased with the prospect of cramming just a little bit more into your day.

Approaching each day this way is possible, but there is an inevitable cost to your well-being and to your relationships that you will eventually pay in one form or another,.

Where you put your time is zero-sum — you can give some here, you can provide some there, but you can’t give it everywhere.

The art of truly being able to set something aside is worth mastering — without this capability, you may very well put all your time into one thing only to realize when it’s too late that you’ve ignored everything else that means something to you.
