“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.” — Steve Jobs
Whether you take it to mean the way problems are solved, the way jobs are performed, or the way the world is thought about — there is no universally understood and accepted manner of going about anything.
And that’s great because being able to acknowledge how things are currently done while inviting the possibility of there being a better way is key to potentiating creative and impactful work that leads to greater levels of flourishing and well-being.
This undercurrent of things not being fully understood is especially helpful when you consider the most elusive it of them all: how to live the one life you get.
You are not alone if you feel like you’re still figuring things out; everyone else is too. And know that what appears to work for the person you read about online, or the person on the other end of a Zoom call, or the Joneses next door may not work for you at all. And that’s OK because the person that needs to be sold on the story of the life you are living is not any of them — it’s you.
