Zoom-Zoom recognition 2021-01-27 10:29:58

Zoom-Zoom club has been around for over 30 years, started just after the Mazda MX-5 was first released in 1989. I am an enthusiastic member of this club, one of the oldest Zoom-Zoom clubs in the world.

The club presents its members a pin for every five years of consecutive membership, for example, 5, 10, 15 years, and this year the club will present foundation members with a pin for their 30 years of continuous club membership.

Thirty years of club membership is a terrific achievement for any member. But, renewing your membership every year does not necessarily symbolise a contribution to the club. Though we have over 800 members, only a small band of members has made a significant and long-term contribution to its management.

These are the committee's people or the committed souls organising drives and events for club members to participate. They do it for nothing, and they do it because they are enthusiasts of the car and the club. A few of these members have been contributing for over 20 years, one for 30 years.

The club felt it was time to recognise this contribution, so this year the club will be presenting some new recognition awards that highlight the outstanding achievement for these individuals.

The Hall of Fame award recognises individuals who have made a remarkable contribution to the club. Nominees of this award must have demonstrated service duration over ten years, significant achievement at the highest level and made a voluntary contribution to the club which stands out above all others.

The Club Legend award is the highest award available to members, recognising an individual's extraordinary contribution to the club and may only be awarded to a club member at the committee's absolute discretion. Nominees of this award must have demonstrated service duration over fifteen years, significant achievement at the highest level and a voluntary contribution to the club with an enduring legacy. Club Legend recognition is only to be awarded in highly exceptional and unique circumstances.

The bar has been set high for these awards, and the club has some worthy recipients of the Hall of Fame and Club Legend awards. Please join me in congratulating them for their awards, as well as putting your hands together for a raucous round of applause.
