Flyin' Miata

The Mazda MX-5, also known as the Miata in the US, has always been about being a lightweight sportscar, and it has never needed a large engine to help it get along. A well-tuned four-cylinder engine was all it has ever needed.

The capacity of the engines has fluctuated over the thirty-odd years for the MX-5. The original model had a 1.6-litre engine, and the current model is available with a 1.5 or 2.0-litre engine.

It is not surprising that engine tuners have put bigger engines into a Mazda MX-5. It lends itself nicely to the torture of a torque monster V8 transplant. The car's overall structure is more than strong enough to handle the wrenching stress of a big thumping V8 and be a fun yet civilized daily driver that will out-perform more expensive cars on the track.

The Flyin' Miata is a 430-horsepower 6.2-litre V8 from the 2015 Camaro Super Sport crammed into the MX-5's engine bay. The V8 conversion package is available for any 1990 to 2021 MX-5.  If you're determined to go as fast as humanly possible, the Flyin' Miata fits the bill.

And speaking of bills, be ready to pay good money to get into one, though the huge grins and an accelerated respiration rate are free.
