Beware the noisy killer

I received an email with the subject line "Beware of the silent killer." I thought about it for a moment and decided I'd rather be aware of the noisy killer.

Let's say it's the middle of the night, and I'm peacefully sleeping. A silent killer breaks into my house. He doesn't set off any alarms or trigger dog barking or otherwise make as much as a whisper.  I'm peacefully sleeping, and he creeps silently into my bedroom so I never wake up, and he kills me in my sleep. Now, that's not a horrible way to die. There are far worse ways to die than dying peacefully in your sleep.

Now suppose a noisy killer breaks into my house to kill me. Here I am, peacefully sleeping and suddenly roused awake from some type of cacophony. Who knows how he would be noisy? Banging pots and pans, setting off an air horn, wearing tap-dancing shoes, shouting. Regardless of the noise, it rouses me out of peaceful slumber. I wake up disoriented and stressed out, trying to figure out what's going on, and the next thing I see is the noisy killer right as he kills me. Now that's a terrible way to go.

So I say, "Beware the noisy killer."
